Jackie Robinson, the trailblazing infielder who broke Major League Baseball's colour barrier in 1947, will appear on the cover of the collector's editions for MLB The Show 21, Playstation and San Diego Studio announced Wednesday.
Playstation and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment issued a statement about the cover:
"We can think of no one who better represents what we should aspire to be on and off the field than Jackie Robinson. His principles remain as relevant and important as ever before. This is why we honor him by showcasing him on all the Collector's Editions of MLB The Show™ 21. This includes the Jackie Robinson Edition, the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition.
On April 15, 1947, Robinson broke the decades-old “colour line” of Major League Baseball when he appeared on the field for the National League Brooklyn Dodgers. He played as an infielder and outfielder for the Dodgers from 1947 through 1956.
While Jackie Robinson will grace the cover of the collector's edition game, San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. will grace the cover of the standard edition of the game. For the first time ever in this 2021 season, it will mark the first time the MLB The Show series will be available on both Playstation and Xbox consoles.
