Last Friday (February 5), CNN political commentator Van Jones appeared on The View, but he reportedly didn’t feel as welcomed as he’d expected.
“He felt like they were rude, and he was completely blindsided by how they questioned him. He was not happy about how the interview went,” a “TV source” told Page Six. “It was unprofessional,” they added.
Jones made an appearance on the show to promote his new series, The Reunited States, he produced with The View co-host Meghan McCain.
Toward the end of the interview, co-host and lawyer, Sunny Hostin and part-time co-host Ana Navarro, asked Jones about his relationship with the administration of former president Donald Trump.
“There are those who really accuse you of being an opportunist, a chameleon, so to speak, who provided a racial cover for former disgraced, twice-impeached, President Trump… People in the [B]lack community don’t trust you anymore. What is your response?” Hostin asked.
Navarro added, “You’ve lost a lot of people who trusted you, and who saw you as a voice, because of the positions you took during Trump.”
Jones told Hostin, “Well, I don’t think that’s true,” in response.
The source told Page Six that Jones spoke to the show’s producers after the appearance. “He told them, ‘I didn’t expect to be ambushed,’” the source said, though a spokesperson for the show disputes this claim.
On Monday (February 8), Jones tweeted about the interview.
Others sounded off on Twitter, weighing in on the incident.
