There’s A ‘Best Man’ TV Series In The Works

The Best Man movie franchise is getting a limited TV series revival, and the original cast is getting back together for the project.

According to a report by Deadline, Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, ordered 10 episodes of the series entitled The Best Man: The Final Chapters

The Best Man original movie was first released in 1999 and quickly became a Black cinema classic. In 2013, the cast returned with The Best Man Holiday film sequel.

The movies’ writer and director Malcolm D. Lee and former Insecure executive producer Dayna Lynne North worked on the project.

The cast members set to make a return in the limited drama series are: Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Nia Long, Melissa De Sousa, Regina Hall, Harold Perrineau, and Sanaa Lathan. The only original cast member missing from the series is Monica Calhoun, whose character, Mia, died in the sequel film.

“We’re excited to reunite this beloved cast for a limited series run of The Best Man for Peacock,” Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content told the outlet. “With a powerhouse due like Malcolm and Dayna at the helm, fans will fall in love with our favorite group of friends all over again.”

Lee announced the news on social media with a video. “You’ve been asking for it,” he says. “We gave one, we gave two, now,” he says before pausing and holding up three fingers.

Lee is also the producer and director of Girls Trip and Night School. Fans of the series can expect to watch the show in September, according to the announcement.
