Fans of A Black Lady Sketch Show can tune in for its return on April 23, according to Deadline. The outlet reported that the second season of actress-comedian Robin Thede’s comedy series will air on HBO and HBO Max and run for six episodes.
The show first premiered in August 2019 and featured guest appearances from Issa Rae, Angela Bassett, Yvonne Orji Loretta Devine, and more. It was nominated for three Primetime Emmy awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series, Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, and Outstanding Guest Actress In a Comedy Series.
For season two, the main cast including Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, and Gabrielle Dennis are set to come back. Quinta Brunson, who was a part of the main cast in season one, won’t be in this upcoming season, the outlet reported, due to pandemic-related scheduling conflicts.
Kim Wayans, Omarion, Laz Alonzo, Skye Townsend, Issa Rae, and Gabrielle Union are a few of the guests listed to appear on the show in season two.
In the series, the core cast and guests cover culturally-relevant topics ranging from religion, dating and relationships, and social anxiety. Each episode includes five or six sketches and follows a bevy of characters on different adventures and in a variety of situations.
Issa Rae’s HOORAE is listed as one of the show’s executive producers.
