Apple TV+ has given the green light to the groundbreaking documentary series, Big Man On Campus. Set at Howard University, the series will follow the life of star basketball recruit Makur Maker as he acclimates to college life in the nation's capital. Maker's story is of particular interest because he is the first five-star men's basketball prospect to play for the Bison. Unfortunately, his freshman year was marred by a worldwide pandemic and a string of injuries.
"Big Man on Campus is the story of a historic moment in America told through the lens of a young athlete with the power to create change. In 2020, a year marked by social unrest, basketball sensation, NBA prospect and top NCAA recruit, Makur Maker, made the groundbreaking decision to play college basketball for Howard University in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities rather than join one of the many top-tier programs offering him a full ride," the official description reads according to Shadow & Act.
"Balancing extraordinary pressures both on and off the court, and with the eyes of the nation focused on his every move, Maker’s journey - from fleeing war-torn South Sudan as a child through to the movement he has sparked today - has put a face on the socio-political complexities of America during this unprecedented time."
Seth Gordon has been tapped to direct the upcoming series. He is best known for producing the Academy Award-winning documentary feature, Undefeated. Joining Gordon, Sony Television, Exhibit A and Boardwalk Pictures. Also, Sarina Roma, Nikki Calabrese, Andrew Fried and Jordan Wynn will serve as executive producers.
At this time, Apple TV+ has only given the green light for the series. The streaming platform has not yet decided when it will debut online.
