Fans of the widely-popular Netflix show Bridgerton will be happy to know a spin off show is on its way to the streaming platform. According to Deadline, the second show added to the franchise will be written by Shonda Rhimes and covers the origin story of Queen Charlotte.
The period drama first released in December 2020 covers a winding tale of love, betrayal, romance, and drama between the Bridgerton Family and other members of elite society. An unidentified Lady Whistledown stirs the pot with pamphlets that add some spice to high society.
The original show was recently renewed for an additionally three seasons, bringing the total seasons so far to four.
Jess Brownell, a Shondaland veteran, who has worked on the first two seasons of Bridgerton as well as Scandal, is set to be the showrunner for the Bridgerton franchise’s latest addition.
In the limited series, fans will get to see the love life of a young Queen Charlotte and give a look at the early lives of Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.
“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton,” Netflix head of Global TV Bela Bajaria told the outlet.
“Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”
No release date has been set for the spin off and fans might have to wait until next year to get season two of the original series.
