Police in Georgia announced Tuesday (November 23) they found the body of 8-year-old Nicole Amari Hall after she was reported missing on Sunday (November 21).
As the Black Information Network previously reported, the 8-year-old, who goes by "Amari," was last seen by her mother at the Hometown Studios Hotel in Gwinnett County. Amari's family told authorities that she has autism and was wearing a Tweety bird coat and blue and white pajamas when she went missing.
Investigators told WSB-TV that they conducted an extensive search for Amari but could not find her. Their investigation turned from a missing persons to a homicide after talking with the girl's mother.
"We conducted an extensive search and there was no sign of Amari," JD McCoy of the Gwinnett County Police Department told the outlet. "Additionally, we believed Amari at this point was not necessarily missing."
Amari's body was discovered Tuesday morning around 10:45 a.m. ET near a freeway. Police have ruled her death a homicide and are pursuing murder charges against the Amari's mother's partner, Celeste Owen.
Amari's mother, Brittany Hall, is expected to be charged with concealing the death of another.
