A Kansas high school student is facing charges after video showed he beat a Black female student while hurling racial slurs in the hallway.
According to the Kansas City Star, a white 15-year-old male was charged with felony aggravated battery in connection to the racist attack on a Black sophomore student at Shawnee Mission East High School.
The incident led to dozens of students walking out of class on Monday (November 27) in protest of the district's handling of the altercation, which reportedly left the Black student with a broken nose.
A video obtained by the Kansas City Star showed the Black student saying “Don’t say nothing unless you’re gonna come say it to my face" before a white student told her to “Shut the **** up.”
The Black student began to approach the white student when he charged toward her and shouted the n-word. The white student pushed the Black female student before they both started to hit each other.
According to court records, the 15-year-old male is also facing charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and battery in a separate case from June.
His hearing over the recent beating is set for Dec. 6.
