Mariah Carey Says Son Moroccan Was Bullied By 'White Supremacist'

Mariah Carey has had experience with racism and bigotry and the pop icon wasn’t afraid to recall those memories in her new memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. However, Carey’s 9-year-old son, Moroccan, has already encountered his own painful experience, too.

During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday (October 8), Carey admitted that she's been reading her new book to her children to help them understand the world. "I'm reading chapters to them that are helping to illustrate my encounters with racism, and how they can then have a greater understanding, and ultimately a greater reservoir with which to deal with the situation itself," the new author told Andy Cohen. "Rocky just got bullied the other day by a white supremacist person that he thought was his friend. It's like, insane. So, this is the world we live in."

As a biracial woman, Carey went on to emphasize that racism and prejudice has "been a struggle for [her] since [she] was aware that there was such a thing as race." “And the only reason I was aware so early on is that it became a subject of humiliation for me, as a child," she recalled, before sharing her 9-year-old daughter Monroe’s response to the one time when she was bullied by a group of girls she thought were her friends.

"I let her hear that. And it was really sweet, she goes, 'Mommy, those girls, they feel so bad now. I bet they wish they could be your friend,'" she recalled of Monroe's response.
