Vice President Harris Gets Her Second Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

Vice President Kamala Harris rolled up her sleeve to get the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday (January 26). The new VP received the shot at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, according to The Hill

While she received her vaccine, she shared a message to other Americans about getting theirs, and thanked the staff of the NIH, too.

“The importance of NIH is that this is about an essential function of government, which is to provide for the public health. The work that happens here has one goal, to improve public health. And the importance of the pursuit of the work that happens at NIH, is that it’s not about profit. It’s about the people.”

“These scientists, these medical professionals… created something that will save your life,” she continued, “and the life of your family and the community.”

Harris wore two masks while she got the vaccine, and reemphasized President Joe Biden’s goal of getting 100 million doses of the vaccine into the arms of Americans within his first 100 days in office.

“We’re going to get 100 million vaccinations in 100 days and then we’re going to do what is necessary to improve the health and wellbeing of our country,” Harris said.

Her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff also received his second shot that day.

Harris got her first dose at the end of December at the predominantly Black serving United Medical Center in Southeast Washington, D.C.

So far, there has been a lag in getting the vaccine to Black communities, a challenge Biden’s administration is working to rectify in their revamped distribution plan.
