Congresswoman Cori Bush took to Twitter on Thursday (July 22) to expose some of the death threats she’s received since taking office in November.

“White supremacists wanted me dead before I came to Congress,” the St. Louis native and representative wrote in the tweet. “And white supremacist threats on my life have only intensified as a Black woman speaking truth in the halls of power,” she added.

Bush posted a photo of one of the death threats she’s received, offering a trigger warning for the message’s violent and racist language.

“Tone it down b**ch,” the threat reads. “You’re going to get yourself murdered if you keeping running off that big old gorilla mouth,” it continued. “You need to be put into a f**king cage at the zoo.”

Bush posted a series of photos of the messages she’s received, each one filled with racist and vile threats against the activist-lawmaker.

During her time in office so far, Bush has proposed legislation for community policing alternatives and has been a fierce supporter of voting rights, environmental justice, and more.

Rep. Bush received an outpouring of support from her colleagues after posting the threats to social media.
