ESPN's Chris Berman is catching heat after he attempted to relate the historic matchup of two Black quarterbacks at the Super Bowl with Abraham Lincoln's birthday.

During Super Bowl LVII on Sunday (February 12), Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia Eagle's Jalen Hurts made history as the first two Black quarterbacks to square off against each other in the big game. The storyline has been heavily covered by the media leading up to the historic matchup, but Berman took it a step further on Sunday night.

After Mahomes and the Chiefs became Super Bowl champions, Berman felt it was necessary to point out that the historic game occurred on Lincoln's birthday.

“Also, of course, two African American quarterbacks starting against each other in the Super Bowl for the first time. Fittingly, February 12th is Abe Lincoln’s birthday,” Berman said during ESPN's post-game coverage.

Berman's comment didn't land well with many social media users.

"Abe Lincoln is the real Super Bowl MVP according to Chris Berman," one Twitter user quipped.

"What the hell was Chris Berman thinking or drinking last night?!" another user questioned.
