South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) is reportedly throwing his hat in the ring for the 2024 presidency.

According to the Federal Election Commission's website, Scott recently filed paperwork to run for president in 2024, per CNN. A formal announcement for his campaign for the presidency is set to take place on Monday (May 22) in South Carolina.

The filing comes after Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, launched a presidential exploratory committee in April. Scott has said he approaches politics with the belief that the U.S. is “the land of opportunity and not the land of oppression.” The GOP Senator has also emphasized his evangelical faith, race, and experience growing up as the son of a single mother.

Scott joins GOP candidates including former President Donald Trump, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and talk radio host Larry Elder, who are all vying for the primary to take on President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is also expected to declare his candidacy for president next week, according to CNN.
