A Tennessee mother says she accidentally shot and killed her 13-year-old daughter, People reports.

On Saturday (March 23), the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting at the home of De’Ann Radley and her teenage daughter Dearria. Dearria was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The mother told authorities that she was trying to get keys out of her purse when she accidentally shot her daughter.

“The mother of a 13-year-old girl who was fatally shot Saturday night inside their Edgehill Avenue home is reporting that the pistol discharge was an accident,” the NMPD said in a statement. “In an interview at police headquarters, Dearria’s mother told detectives that her unholstered .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol was in her purse with other items.”
