John Legend slammed former President Donald Trump as a "racist" amid his reelection bid.

During a conversation with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Sunday (April 21), Legend cited Trump's response to Black Lives Matter protestors following the murder of George Floyd in 2020.

“When we protested the killing of George Floyd, he was advocating for the military to shoot us in the streets,” Legend said. “He has made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior. Like, he believes that, to his core, in his bones.”

The singer added that Trump “believes in a genetic hierarchy of humanity, and it’s racially determined.”

Legend's comments come as the former president has been touting that Black people like him more because of his recent legal woes. Trump is facing 34 felony counts for allegedly falsifying documents to cover up payments to porn star Stormy Daniels weeks before the 2016 election.

“And a lot of people said that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against,” Trump said in February. “It’s been pretty amazing, but possibly, maybe, there’s something there.”

Legend shut down Trump's previous claims that he's the best president for Black Americans, saying he's a racist "at his core."

”He is a tried and true, dyed-in-the-wool racist,” the singer said Sunday. “In the core of his being, he is a racist. So I don’t want to hear what he has to say about what he’s done for Black people. He’s done very little for us, and he is, at his core, truly, truly a racist.”

Legend said he will return to the campaign trail later this year in support of President Joe Biden, who he backed in 2020. He noted that the choice between Biden and Trump is “very clear.”
