A Detroit man is being praised nationwide after he spotted a 6-year-old girl walking to school alone in 10-degree weather — without shoes, gloves, or a hat — and decided he wasn’t letting her out of his sight.

On Monday morning (December 8), Joshua Threatt was driving on Detroit’s west side when he spotted the little girl walking by herself on 14th Street. Shocked, he started a Facebook Live stream as he got out of his truck.

"Got this precious little girl out here walking by herself, bro," Threatt said in the livestream, panning the camera toward the child.

He told viewers he didn’t want to put her in his vehicle, so he walked her — more than ten blocks — to Thirkell Elementary School. “I ain’t want to put her in my truck, bro, so I got out and walked with her. Made sure she got to where the f* she’s going.**"

Throughout the walk, he fought back tears. “Thank God I found her,” he said. “I would’ve felt so bad if she ended up on the news.”

When they reached the school, the little girl broke down crying. Threatt, still emotional, told staff she was probably scared after multiple cars had slowed down near her while she walked alone.

Threatt later spoke with CBS News Detroit, explaining how stunned he was to find a child alone in that level of cold. “It just threw me off ’cause she was by herself — 6 years old — she needed somebody to be with her,” he told CBS.

His video has now been viewed millions of times across Facebook and other platforms. “I’m getting thank yous from around the world,” he told CBS. “Texas, Los Angeles, Nebraska, Idaho…”

In the comments, people praised both his compassion and his caution — especially his choice not to put the child in his truck. “With so many creeps tricking kids into their cars… bless his good heart,” one viewer wrote.

“It was smart of him to go live,” another added.

Detroit police say the little girl is safe and the incident is under investigation.
