President Donald Trump claims he was offered $250 million to run for a third presidential term, a move that is barred by the U.S. Constitution.

On Tuesday (December 16), Trump spoke at a Hanukkah reception held in the East Room at the White House, where he praised billionaire GOP donor Miriam Adelson, whom he claimed made the $250 million offer, per The Independent.

“Miriam gave my campaign indirectly and directly $250 million, she was the number one,” Trump told the crowd as he invited Adelson to the stage. “When somebody can give you $250 million, I think that we should give her the opportunity to say hello.”

Adelson, the widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, then said she had recently spoken with Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz “about four more years" of Trump in office.

“I say Alan, I agree with you, so we can do it!” she said, prompting cheers from the audience.

As the crowd broke into chants of “Four more years,” Trump said Adelson offered him $250 million to run for another term.

“She said, ‘Think about it, I’ll give you another $250 million,’” the president told attendees.

“I will give,” Adelson replied.

Tuesday's comments come amid Trump’s repeated flirtations with a third presidential run, despite the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms. In March, Trump told NBC News he was “not joking” about the idea, saying, “A lot of people want me to do it.” The president has also said he would “love" to run again, but it "wouldn’t be right.”

When asked recently if he was ruling out a third term, Trump responded, “You’ll have to tell me.”
