Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is calling out Elon Musk after the tech billionaire shared an easily debunked conspiracy theory suggesting she benefited from Democrats allegedly importing noncitizens to secure votes.
On Monday (January 12), Musk reshared a graphic on X claiming, “Ilhan Omar is the most obvious example” of a Democrat exploiting recently arrived Somali immigrants in Minnesota to gain political advantage. The post argued that Democrats support illegal immigration to “absorb noncitizens into their party as loyal voters.”
Omar, whose 5th Congressional District is predominantly white, quickly dismantled Musk’s claim.
“You are one of the dumbest people on earth, my district is literally a majority white district,” Omar wrote, calling the allegation “laughable” and emphasizing that “conspiracy theories…should have no place in a society that cares about facts.”
The response was backed even by Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, which confirmed that while Omar’s district hosts one of the largest Somali populations in the U.S., they make up only about 3 percent of the constituency, and the district is roughly 60 percent white.
Omar has repeatedly faced attacks from President Donald Trump and his allies over her Somali heritage.
Last month, Trump claimed that “much of the Minnesota Fraud, up to 90%,” was caused by undocumented immigrants from Somalia and singled out Omar as an “ungrateful loser” and a “scammer.”
“Much of the Minnesota Fraud, up to 90%, is caused by people that came into our Country, illegally, from Somalia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “‘Congresswoman’ Omar, an ungrateful loser who only complains and never contributes, is one of the many scammers. Did she really marry her brother? Lowlifes like this can only be a liability to our Country’s greatness. Send them back from where they came, Somalia, perhaps the worst, and most corrupt, country on earth. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
