Trump Mocks Obama Over How He Walks Down Stairs — Again

President Donald Trump used a rally in Kentucky this week to revive one of his stranger complaints about former President Barack Obama: the way he walks down stairs.

Speaking March 11 at a Verst Logistics event in Hebron, Kentucky, Trump told supporters, “The only thing I admired about Barack Hussein Obama, which was nothing, actually, but — but the only thing is the way he bobbed down — Remember? He’d bop, hey. You talk about unpresidential. He’s bopping and I couldn’t believe that he made it without at least a noticeable major fall.”

He then took a shot at former President Joe Biden, saying, “But Biden was the opposite. Biden couldn’t even walk up the stairs. He fell three times.”

The remarks were not off-the-cuff in the sense that Trump has made similar comments before. During a February 2 interview on Dan Bongino’s podcast, Trump said he was “impressed” by Obama’s ability to go down stairs quickly, even while criticizing how it looked.

“I didn’t even like the look of it,” Trump said. “But I was impressed with his, uh, ability to go down the stairs like that… those stairs are very slippery.” He added, “He’s an accident waiting to happen. And to the best of my knowledge, it didn’t happen, so I give him credit.”

Trump had already raised the same theme publicly last September while speaking to military leaders at Quantico. In that speech, he described himself as especially cautious on stairs, saying, “I walk very slowly. Nobody has to set a record, just try not to fall because it doesn’t work out well.” He then contrasted that with Obama, saying, “He would bop down those stairs… I said, great, I don’t want to do it.”

This week’s Kentucky stop was part of a broader political event where Trump also attacked Rep. Thomas Massie (calling him a "loser" for voting against his signature One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year) and promoted his own record on taxes, energy, and foreign policy.
