Kevin Hart is facing backlash from George Floyd’s family and the internet for allowing a sensitive joke to air on his Netflix series.

On the latest episode of The Roast of Kevin Hart, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe took the stage to join others in publicly roasting Hart. “The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe,” Hinchcliffe said.

According to TMZ, Floyd’s family reportedly found the joke highly offensive. A spokesman for The Gianna and George Floyd Foundation told the outlet the family believes Hart should have told Hinchcliffe to avoid the topic altogether, and that they were disgusted by Hinchcliffe’s apparent obsession with telling George Floyd jokes.

During an episode of The Roast of Tom Brady in 2024, Hinchcliffe joked that former NFL star Rob Gronkowski “looked like the final boss in George Floyd the video game,” per TMZ

"We are trying to rebuild things for our community and make things better in our community,” the family said. “Let's try to be a little bit more positive -- and not sit up there doing colon inspections by white comedians."

Several Internet users also criticized Hinchcliffe’s joke and called out Hart for laughing at it afterward.

“Dave Chappelle said a lot of those white comedians who stick to a racist shtick are NOT joking and I will never not believe that,” one X user commented under a video of the show.

“That wasn’t a random accident or harmless joke George Floyd died at the hands of law enforcement while people watched and did nothing,” another posted. “But somehow a white man can turn that into entertainment and everybody around him just laughs and giggle.”
