A 63-year-old New York grandmother has been missing in Las Vegas for 10 days, and her family is growing increasingly concerned after receiving suspicious messages from her phone requesting money and Bitcoin.
Alisa Goods traveled to Las Vegas to visit a friend, according to CBS News. Her friend, Roger John, told local outlet KLAS that Goods was staying at his apartment near South Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue. John said Goods told him on August 8 that she was heading to a CVS near Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue to buy iron pills.
She never returned and was reported missing August 10, according to CBS News.
On August 12, family members began receiving texts from Goods’ phone asking for “help, gas money and bitcoin.”
The request for gas money was alarming for her niece, Alana Calloway, because Goods does not drive.“I said, ‘What do you need gas for? The car?’ My aunt does not drive. There is no car,” Calloway told CBS News.
Calloway said she fears someone else may have Goods’ phone and potentially Goods herself.
“If they have her phone, there’s a possibility that they have her,” she told CBS News. “I want to know that she’s OK and that she is alive.”
John, who told KLAS he has known Goods for nine years, described her as “the nicest person you would meet.”
Goods’ daughter, Kristen Goods—who is now in Las Vegas searching for her mother—told CBS News, “I am hoping to God for the best, but my heart can’t take what it could be, which is the worst.”
Kevin Newton, Goods’ son, directed his frustration toward whoever has his mother’s phone.
“Just give my mother back,” he told KLAS. “I don’t know what y’all got going on, but this ain’t it.”
Calloway added, “This is our plea and our cry: if anybody has seen anything, it can be the smallest thing. It can be something that they think does not matter; we ask that you just report it.”
Goods’ family has reached out to Vegas hospitals, jails and the coroner’s office, with no success, according to CBS News. Las Vegas Metro Police say the missing-person case remains active.
