Far-right activist Laura Loomer is doubling down on racist and misogynistic attacks against Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon, despite condemnation from former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley.
In a video posted Friday (August 28), Loomer attacked Nixon and several other prominent Black women and women of color, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota), Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts), former Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri) and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Loomer repeatedly used racist and derogatory language toward the women, at one point calling them “ghetto black b*****s” and arguing that a stereotype exists among Black women in the Democratic Party.
“I’m gonna call out the ghetto black b*****s,” Loomer said, adding that she would continue making such comments despite expecting criticism from the media.
Nixon, a Florida state representative who recently won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, responded to Loomer by mocking a past controversy involving the activist.
“Girl. You ate dog food on camera. In the words of [Queen Latifah], ‘Who you calling a b***h?’” Nixon wrote.
Loomer escalated her attacks, invoking “Ebonics” and telling Nixon she might need to “bark” at her and “tug” her leash for the lawmaker to understand. When Nixon told Loomer to address her as “Representative,” Loomer responded by calling her “Shaniqua.”
Loomer continued attacking Nixon over the weekend and into Monday (August 31), defending her comments and saying she stood by them.
“I meant every word I said about Angie,” she wrote.
In a Monday post, Loomer again used racist and derogatory language toward Nixon, as well as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan).
“Rashida Tlaib openly spews attacks on White people and she supports Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood,” Loomer wrote. “She’s an open jihadist with direct ties to Islamic terrorist organizations trying to get people to condemn me for calling @AngieNixon what she is.”
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican who was once a close ally of President Donald Trump, publicly condemned Loomer’s remarks while also criticizing Trump and the Republican Party for continuing to give Loomer access to the president’s inner circle.
“These attacks from Laura Loomer, one of President Donald Trump’s trusted advisors, are disgraceful and reflect the troubling direction our political discourse continues to take,” Greene wrote. She added that there is “no place in our politics for this kind of hate.”
The former MAGA lawmaker didn’t stop there, and wrote another post condemning the Republican party for tolerating Loomer’s rhetoric.
“I’m not a Democrat and I’m not supporting Angie Nixon, but the Republican Party and President Trump owns Laura Loomer and her nonstop vitriol,” Greene wrote. “This hateful, racists, and demeaning rhetoric should not be tolerated. Ever. But they allow it and keep her in the inner circle.”
Rep. Pressley also responded in an Instagram video, rejecting Loomer’s attacks against her and colleagues.
“You know, I wasn't gonna enter the chat to respond to an ignorant and desperate woman who yesterday referred to myself and several of my sister congresswomen as ghetto black b****es,” she says in the video.
She continued, “I'm not raising my daughter Cora to accept that kind of disrespect. My mother did not raise me to accept such disrespect. This is also bigger than myself and my other sister congresswomen. This is about a coordinated, unrelenting, and layered campaign against black people, the black family, and black women.
In the caption accompanying the video, Pressley wrote, “It doesn’t matter how hard they come for Black women. We will continue to lead.”
Nixon says she won't allow the controversy to pull her away from her campaign.
“I’m not going to let Donald Trump’s attack dogs distract us from holding corrupt politicians like [Republican Senate nominee] Ashley Moody accountable,” Nixon wrote Monday. “I’m sure as hell not going to stop fighting for Florida’s working families.”
Nixon will face Moody in the November general election.
