Lizzo’s touring company has won its legal battle with a former employee who accused the company of racial and sexual harassment during the singer’s 2023 European tour.
On Tuesday (September 1), U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha granted summary judgment to Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., dismissing all of Asha Daniels’ remaining claims against the company, according to PEOPLE and court documents.
Daniels worked as a wardrobe assistant during the European and UK leg of Lizzo’s Special Tour for less than three weeks. She alleged that she experienced racial and sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and a hostile work environment while working on the tour.
Daniels never met or spoke directly with Lizzo, according to a September 2023 ABC News interview. Lizzo was originally named as a defendant but was dismissed from the case in December 2024.
The judge found Daniels did not provide enough evidence to show that the alleged conduct met the legal standard for harassment or discrimination, including her allegation that wardrobe manager Amanda Nomura used racial slurs.
“There is no evidence to suggest Nomura ever spoke a racial slur or referred to any specific Black person or Black people generally using racially offensive language,” Aenlle-Rocha wrote.
The court acknowledged some of the alleged workplace conduct was “inappropriate and unprofessional,” but found it did not rise to the level prohibited under federal law.
Lizzo celebrated the ruling in an Instagram post Tuesday.
“Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my company Big Grrrl Touring,” she wrote. “All the ridiculous claims by a wardrobe assistant who worked on tour for less than 3 weeks (including a claim they broke an acrylic nail) have been dismissed.”
Lizzo added that the claims were “shocking because I was being sued by someone who admittedly never met me.”
She continued, “I prayed for the truth to come out, and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed. The truth matters more to me than anything, and I told y’all I will not settle and will continue to fight until every vicious claim that has been made against me and my businesses.”
Daniels’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, said he was disappointed with the ruling and is “considering appropriate next steps,” according to PEOPLE.
