The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is bringing together HBCU leaders, scholars and supporters in Washington, D.C., for its 39th Anniversary Gala.
The black-tie event, set for Saturday (September 12) at the Marriott Marquis, serves as TMCF’s largest annual fundraiser and awards ceremony, celebrating the organization’s students, partners and impact across the Black college community.
Actor Larenz Tate will return to host the gala, while Grammy-winning singer Ledisi is set to perform. Media personality and Jackson State University alumna Tambra Cherie will return as red carpet host.
This year’s honorees include Latriece Watkins of Sam’s Club, Prairie View A&M University President Dr. Tomikia P. LeGrande, and Richard and Jim Berkman.
“The Anniversary Gala is a special night when we can celebrate our students, our partnerships and our impact,” TMCF President and CEO Dr. Harry L. Williams said.
Last year’s gala, also hosted by Tate, raised nearly $5 million.
The celebration comes just days after TMCF hosted its DC CEO Impact NOW Awards on Thursday (September 10) at the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
The event recognized leaders and organizations for their work expanding access, opportunity and economic mobility, including Shuana Tucker Sims of The Links, Inc., Dr. Mark Frohman of Frohman Consulting Corp. and members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, also known as the Divine Nine.
“The CEO Impact Awards are our opportunity to recognize those who have paved the way for generations of students through advancing access, opportunity and economic mobility,” Williams said.
The Divine Nine were also set to be honored for their contributions to HBCU students, with DJ Jazzy Jeff and singer-songwriter Marsha Ambrosius scheduled to take the stage.
Proceeds from TMCF’s events support scholarships, career pathways, leadership development and other opportunities for students.
