A Texas elementary school principal has been placed on administrative leave after a voicemail recording captured her making comments about the parents of a 5-year-old girl who reported being inappropriately touched by another student.
The incident began Friday (September 25), when the girl’s parents, Molly and Pablo Rucker, said their daughter told them another student touched her inappropriately at Grand Oaks Elementary, according to FOX 26 Houston.
Principal Heather Myers later left a voicemail for Molly Rucker about scheduling a meeting with the district’s Title IX coordinator.
“I’m gonna go ahead and hold that time if that time doesn’t work please call me back and let me know and we’ll find a time that works for everyone,” Myers says in the recording before ending the message with, “Thank you. Bye. Bye.”
The recording continued after Myers appeared to believe the call had ended. She can then be heard laughing while discussing the family.
“When parents are crazy, my sympathetic voice kinda goes away,” Myers says.
Pablo Rucker told FOX 26 that his daughter came to the school “in good faith” that administrators would do their jobs.
“I just wanted my daughter to feel safe, and with the current administration, I don’t feel like she’s safe or any parent’s child is actually safe under her care,” he said.
Attorney Ben Crump shared the video on social media, sharing Atlanta Black Star’s post about the incident.
Tomball ISD confirmed Myers was placed on administrative leave while the district investigates.
The district described her remarks as “unprofessional” and said they did not reflect the professional standards expected of its staff.
The district said it is also continuing to investigate the original student welfare report.
In a comment on Crump’s post, Pablo Rucker wrote, “My daughter spoke up the first time, she is a hero because she wasn’t afraid and isn’t afraid. Don’t call her a victim instead can we stand behind her bravery and still protect her?”
The family said their daughter is taking time away from school while counseling services are arranged and that they do not plan to send her back to the campus under its current administration.
