The Republican Party of Arkansas filed a complaint against Democratic congressional candidate Chris Jones over a missed financial disclosure deadline and questions about payments he received from a political action committee, Arkansas’s KARK News reported.

According to KATV, attorney Bud Cummins reviewed public records on behalf of the Arkansas GOP and identified questions about Jones’ income from Vortex PAC, a political action committee he helped create.

Jones’ 2024 financial disclosure listed $49,000 in income from the committee, while records showed four payments of $4,000 each to Jones in 2025 that were not reflected in his 2025 disclosure.

Jones, a physicist and ordained minister, is challenging Republican Rep. French Hill, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, for Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District seat in the November midterm elections.

Jones’ campaign accused Republicans of trying to distract voters from Hill’s record.

“The Republican Party of Arkansas is grasping at straws to distract from Hill’s record,” campaign manager Kimberly Eddings told KATV. “Before running for Congress,

Chris did paid political consulting work, and every dollar is documented in public filings.”Cummins cautioned against drawing conclusions about Jones’ intentions, telling KATV, “I'm not assigning any motive to the facts that I've related to you.”

Arkansas Advocate reported that Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Joseph Wood questioned Jones’ failure to disclose his personal finances, asking what he had to hide.

Republican Party spokesman Isaac Foley also questioned why the report had not been filed, telling KATV, “Why not file the report?”

Jones accepted responsibility for missing the deadline, citing the death of a close friend.

Eddings told KATV that differences in his 2025 disclosure reflected estimates that differed from final amounts. She added that Jones was filing his delayed disclosure Wednesday (October 14), and had submitted payment for the late fee.

Democratic Party of Arkansas Chairman Marcus Jones criticized Republicans’ focus on the issue, telling KATV, “They’re just trying to distract Arkansans from what the real issues are.”
