Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the NFL season after doctors discovered blood clots in both lungs, ESPN reported. His treatment is expected to take at least three months.

The Eagles and Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, shared an update Monday (October 19), explaining that additional medical evaluations revealed a more extensive condition than initially diagnosed.

Specialists in London first identified a superficial vein thrombosis in Hurts’ left calf before further testing confirmed deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, which are blood clots in both lungs.

Despite the diagnosis, Hurts is “clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations,” according to the joint statement. His treatment will involve anticoagulants, commonly known as blood thinners, which prevent him from participating in contact activities, including football, while taking the medication.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement said.

The Eagles and Lynn also said they anticipate Hurts will have no long-term effects from the condition. He is expected to remain active around the team and continue conditioning while he recovers.

Hurts will be able to resume contact football activities once he is off blood thinners, according to the statement. The team and his agent did not provide a specific return date.
