Zendaya Reacts To Making History As Youngest Best Actress Emmy Winner

Zendaya reached a major milestone in her acting career this weekend.

The actress, 24, made history as the youngest actress ever to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at last night’s (September 20) 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards for her role in Euphoria. “This is so so special!!! I’m so freakin proud of everyone,” Zendaya shared on Twitter following her historical victory.

After beating out tough acts like Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Olivia Colman (The Crown), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark) and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), the Disney alum later took to Instagram to double down on her excitement and gratitude. “Still on cloud nine... so grateful, still speechless, to all my friends and family who have tested/tweeted/called etc. I promise I will get back to you tomorrow when I've wrapped my head around this amazing night, until then... gonna go to sleep and make sure this isn't a dream.”

The Cali-born performer, whose full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, has received major applause for her portrayal as Rue Bennett on the show since its inception in 2019. Earlier this year, the young star took home the award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama at this year’s Satellite Awards as well.

Zendaya wasn’t the only one to make history last night, either.

Finishing with seven trophies, Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek swept the show and became the first comedy series to win all of the four main acting categories in a single year. What’s more, it is also the first comedy or drama series to bring home all seven main Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
