Stacey Abrams Raises Millions For Georgia Senate Runoffs

The 2020 presidential election was called in Joe Biden’s favor on Saturday (November 7), but for the key battleground of Georgia, the race is not over. Two Senate runoff elections are scheduled for January 5, 2021.

One runoff race is between Republican incumbent David Perdue and Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff. The second senate runoff is between Republican Kelly Loeffler and Democratic candidate Reverend Raphael Warnock

Over the weekend, the awareness about the runoff races gained attention on social media.

Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate in Georgia’s 2018 gubernatorial race and founder of Fair Fight Action, got straight to work urging voters to participate in the upcoming election.

The organization also got to work on rallying massive support for the Democratic candidates, including $3.6 million raised in just two days according to a spokesperson for Abrams' organization.

These runoffs are being closely watched and widely supported because they can determine the party control of the Senate.

If the Democratic candidates are successful, the Senate would have a 50-50 split between Republicans and Democrats. Vice president-elect Kamala Harris would be the tie-breaking vote, and would end the Republican rule of the Senate.

All eyes will remain on Georgia as the race for the Senate continues into the new year and as a final call for the state’s 16 electoral votes is made.
