Biden To Issue Ten Executive Actions During His Second Day In Office

President Joe Biden had an eventful Inauguration Day celebration and he is ready to get to work on his second day in office. Biden is expected to issue ten executive actions during his second day in office with a special focus on COVID-19 relief. Prior to his first day as President, Biden had spent much of his campaign pushing for a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package and distributing 100 million vaccines in 100 days. The Biden administration believes that providing relief for small businesses while making vaccines available to the general public will be key to jumpstarting the economy.

"Last week you heard the president lay out his vaccine strategy," COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients said.

"[Biden will provide] the road map to guide America out of this public health crisis."

One of the more prominent executive actions issued today will urge agencies to use the Defense Production Act to obtain key medical supplies. This would allow state and federal organizations to access N95 masks, gloves, test supplies and much more.

"Where we can produce more, we will — where we need to — use the Defense Production Act to help more be made," COVID-19 supply coordinator Tim Manning said.

"We'll be doing a complete ... inventory of what we have on hand, what's needed across America to respond to this pandemic and what we can do to fill those gaps."

Another notable executive order from Joe Biden involves FEMA. Through one executive order, Biden will allow FEMA to reimburse states for all vaccination and testing supplies. Other orders will provide more information regarding school reopenings, require masks on planes and buses and order more studies on COVID-19 treatments.
