5-Year-Old Injured In Crash Involving Former NFL Assistant Coach Wakes Up

The 5-year-old injured in a car accident involving former Kansas City Chief Assistant Coach Britt Reid is reportedly “awake.”

According to an update made to the GoFundMe Page started by the child’s aunt, Tiffany Verhulst, the child woke up on Monday (February 15).

Dave Jackson, the Kansas City Police Captain, told CNN that the 5-year-old is breathing on her own but remains unresponsive.

The child was hospitalized on February 4 with a brain injury after the crash near the Kansas City Chief stadium. She’s been in the hospital in the two weeks following the accident which is currently being investigated by local authorities.

So far, no charges have been brought against Reid. However, he is no longer employed by the team following their loss at the Super Bowl game on February 7.

In a previous statement following the accident, the Chiefs said, “Our focus remains on (the girl) and her family. We reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery.”

The girl’s family has raised nearly $500,000 in donations, to which the family expressed their gratitude on the fundraiser’s page.
