Tahj Mowry Offers An Update On The 'Smart Guy' Reboot

Reboots are popping everywhere in Hollywood. Just this year, there have been reboots of the Rugrats, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Proud Family. In the near future, there will also be reboots of the Boondocks, Candyman and House Party. Adding to the list of reboots, it does appear that 90s babies will get a rejuvenated version of Smart Guy.

"We’ve got the ball rolling on a Smart Guy revival. It’s sort of going to be a sequel, a continuation,” Tahj Mowry, star of the original series, told Vice last summer.

Months have passed since Mowry first teased a reboot of Smart Guy, but it appears that Mowry is still working to make it happen. During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mowry said that he's found a potential home for the series.

"There’s been lots of Zoom meetings and talks about this, so we do have the ball rolling on it. It's just a matter of time and timing, but we do have the possible home for it," Mowry explained.

"We do have a writer, and I feel like I came up with a really fresh take on how we can bring that back with the whole cast and something that is fresh and new. But also something that the diehard fans will still get that nostalgic aspect of it as well."

Smart Guy is not the only project that Mowry is currently working on. He recently appeared in an episode of Family Reunion on Netflix. His latest film, Welcome Matt, stars himself, Deon Cole and GG Townson. It is set to debut in theaters on June 4. When he gets a moment away from his acting projects, hopefully, we'll learn more about who may join him in putting this reboot together.
