Twitter Backs Jemele Hill After She Slams Sen. Joe Manchin

Jemele Hill has never been one to shy away from using her platform to hold those in power accountable for their actions. Most notably, she called former President Donald Trump a "white supremacist" on Twitter. She's also gone toe-to-toe with Kid Rock, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and many others. This week, she's set her sights on another public figure, Senator Joe Manchin.

Sen. Joe Manchin made headlines earlier today when he announced that he would vote against one of the top priorities of the Biden administration, an elections overhaul bill. He cited the bill's "partisan" nature as the reason for his decision.

“Voting and election reform that is done in a partisan manner will all but ensure partisan divisions continue to deepen,″ he wrote in a recent edition of the Charleston Gazette-Mail.

The bill that Machin described as "partisan" would require states to offer two weeks of early voting and provide access to no-excuse absentee balloting. Moreover, the bill seeks to eliminate partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts and allow for more transparency regarding campaign financing.

Manchin's decision to opposed the sweeping elections bill drew criticism from the aforementioned Jemele Hill. She took to Twitter call out the Democratic Senator.

"This is so on-brand for this country. A record number of black voters show up to save this democracy, only for white supremacy to be upheld by a cowardly, power-hungry white dude," Hill tweeted.

"Joe Manchin is a clown."

Many of Hill's statements are polarizing and this tweet was no different. While she did receive her daily share hate tweets from Manchin's supporters, Hill earned the support of many more Twitter users. In fact, the support for her criticism of Manchin was so strong that her name trended on Twitter for hours.
