A father and daughter have walked the stage together and graduated from Jackson State University.

On Saturday (April 29), Faith Thigpen and her father, Dominic Thigpen, both accepted their diplomas from JSU during a graduation ceremony at the school's stadium.

"Jackson State is a family. No matter where you go, no matter what department you're in, they make sure you feel at home," Faith Thigpen told WAPT. "If he can do it, then I can do it."

"It's an honor to be in his footsteps and see watching him lead us and be the father that he is," she added of her father.

Dominic and Faith are among a long line of JSU graduates in their family.

"My mom and dad went to Jackson State. I have four brothers that all went to Jackson State. My wife went to Jackson State, and now my daughter's coming to Jackson State. Her kids are gonna come as well," Dominic said.

Faith graduated with a biology degree, and Dominic received his master's in educational administration and supervision. The father-daughter said they plan to continue to pursue higher education.

"We actually have a competition going on in the house of who's gonna be the first Dr. Thigpen and I think it's going to be me," Faith said.

"It's going to be me," Dominic said. "Call me Doc now, thank you."
