15-year-old Corneilius McGee Jr. was shot and killed by a former police officer who was upset that the teen was dating his daughter, according to the boy's mom.

On Monday (May 22), Clarksdale Police Department said McGee Jr., 15, was fatally shot by a former officer but did not clarify which department he belonged to, Fox 13 reports.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) said investigators are "actively gathering information on a shooting in Clarksdale," adding that "at this time" the shooting didn't involve an officer.

McGee Jr.'s mom, Jacqueline Rash, said the shooter was upset that her son was in a mutual relationship with his daughter. The man previously warned McGee Jr. to not visit her at his home, Rash added.

When the man spotted the teen at his home, McGee Jr. attempted to flee. As her son was running away, Rash said the man shot McGee Jr. in the back while he was climbing a fence.
