Anthony Mackie has addressed the assault and harassment charges facing fellow Marvel actor Jonathan Majors.

In a profile published on Wednesday (June 28), Mackie, who portrays Captain America, told Inverse that he believes "everyone is proven guilty" ahead of Majors' upcoming trial in August.

“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty,’ " Mackie said. “That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing."

"So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say," he continued. "It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

Mackie's comments come after Majors was arrested on March 25 over an alleged domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman said to be his ex-girlfriend. Majors' lawyers maintain the actor is innocent and insist they have "irrefutable evidence" that the alleged victim "is lying."

After appearing in Manhattan Criminal Court earlier this month, Majors lodged his own domestic violence complaint against the alleged victim, according to Insider. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star claims the "drunk and hysterical" woman caused him pain and bleeding after the alleged assault, per a report and affidavit obtained by Insider. She has also allegedly attacked Majors in previous incidents.

NYPD confirmed to People that its investigation into the alleged assault remains open.
