Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens, the husband of decorated gymnast Simone Biles, claims he didn't know her until they started dating and that he's the "catch" in their relationship, per Entertainment Tonight.

During a recent appearance on "The Pivot" podcast, Owens and Biles, who got married in April, discussed how they first met on Raya back in 2020.

"I'm like, 'Lemme see who this is.' I never really paid attention to gymnastics," Owens said. "So it piqued my curiosity."

Owens went on to explain why he allegedly didn't know of the gymnastics star.

"When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn't have NBC, we didn't have Olympics channels, and we were in [training] camp in late July, early August," he said. "So I'm not paying attention. I never had a moment where I would have watched [her perform]."

Owens continued, saying when she initially messaged him, "I didn't know who she was at the time. But like, the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers. So in my mind I'm like, 'OK, she's got to be good.'"

Once they connected on Raya, Owens said they quickly hit it off.

"She messaged me Tuesday, and then we were texting back and forth, and then we hung out Friday," Owens said. "We couldn't do much, because COVID happened and everything was shut down. So she came down to Houston. She lived in the suburbs, so she had to come about 45 minutes to me. Then the rest is history."

Podcast host Ryan Clark jokingly asked if Owens considered himself "the catch" of the relationship, and the NFL player agreed.

"I always say that the men are the catch," Owens said while sitting next to his wife.

"So she really booked you," Clark quipped.

"She did, though! Because I was fighting it," Owens responded. "I was afraid to commit... but you know, it happens when you least expect it."

Owens noted that he didn't realize how famous Biles was until they were out for ice cream and everyone was starstruck by the Olympian.

"It was all these moms and they're there with their kids and we walked past and everybody stopped and just [stared]," Owens said. "Kids were just shaking, like, 'Oh, my God.'"

Social media users were quick to share their reactions to Owen's comments. Check out what they had to say below.
