Seven people were wounded in a shooting at an off-campus party hosted during Prairie View A&M's homecoming weekend, NBC News reports.

On Sunday (November 5) night, police were called to the scene of a trail ride pasture party that over a thousand people attended just two miles away from Prairie View A&M's campus during homecoming weekend.

“Although this was not an official PVAMU homecoming event and was unaffiliated with the university, our campus community is deeply concerned for those injured and all affected by this incident,” a university spokesperson said.

Four adult females, two adult males, and one juvenile male sustained injuries from the shooting. According to the Waller County Sheriff's Office, the injured people were bystanders to a dispute between people who attended the party.

Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said the large gathering, which was held on a field and offered horseback trailer rides, was approved after party promoter attended a hearing where they agreed to follow security, noise level, sanitation and fire safety requirements.

"The organizers failed to meet permit conditions on a number of issues, and an investigation is ongoing at this time, not only into the shooting itself, but the circumstances surrounding the event, the parking situation on public roads, the trash and litter, and the permit requirements that were not met," Duhon said in the statement.

"None of the security protocols that were established by the permitting body and agreed to by the promoter were found to be followed at the time of the incident," the Waller County Sheriff's Office added.

It's unclear if the victims of the shooting are affiliated with the university. The incident is still under investigation.
