For nearly two decades, LeBron James has dominated the NBA as one of the world's best players. Winning for NBA Championships and four NBA MVP awards, he has cemented himself as the league's biggest star and most powerful marketing tool post-Kobe Bryant. Given the role he's played in growing the league throughout the 21st century, it's hard to imagine the NBA without him However, that day will come sooner rather than later for basketball fans.
At 36-years-old, James is still one of the best players in the world. With that said, he has dealt with more injuries over the last three seasons than he has ever had before. As a result, some fans are beginning to think that James may retire in the next few years. During a recent interview with Jasmyn Wimbish of CBS Sports, the basketball star outlined how he'd like to end his career.
"I truly hope that I can finish my career with the Lakers," James said.
"However many years that is, if it's four, five, six, whatever, seven. I hope I can continue to play the game. I love being in L.A., my family loves being in L.A. Being with a historical franchise like the Lakers is something."
James recently signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him in Los Angeles through the end of the 2022-2023 NBA Season. There is one thing that may pull him out of the Lakers organization at the end of his career, LeBron "Bronny" James Jr. James Sr. has been open about his desire to play professional basketball with his son and it is possible that he could move to another team to accomplish that goal.
"That's definitely one of my goals, but that's a long-term goal. My son right now is in high school and enjoying what being a teenager is all about. But that would be pretty cool to go on my resume," he said about the possibility of playing with his son.
James Jr. is entering his junior year at Sierra Canyon and ranked as the 41st best junior in the nation. He has expressed interest in playing at Duke University, but he could forego college and enter the NBA Draft if league rules change within the next few years.
In the meantime, James Sr. will focus on the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy this Friday and James Jr. will focus on his AAU schedule.
