LeBron James is known for making headlines on the court, but he's surely been making headlines off of it lately. Last week, he and Warner Bros. rolled out the tracklist for the upcoming Space Jam soundtrack. Earlier this week, James and his business partner, Maverick Carter, teased a new episode of The Shop with Tom Brady, Chelsea Handler and Kid Cudi. Now, he's back with more news.
James is the star of the first video game trailer for the new Space Jam video game. With the feel of an old-school arcade game, fans can play as James as he fights alongside Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny to beat the Goon Squad. In addition to the new game, Xbox has announced that they will release various Space Jam-themed controllers for $69.99 each. The game will be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on July 1. One day before the film's release in theaters, the game will be available for free on the Microsoft Store.
Space Jam: A New Legacy will hit theaters and HBO Max on July 16. James will be joined by a star-studded cast that includes Don Cheadle, Zendaya, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis and Gabriel Iglesias. Behind the scenes, Ryan Coogler will produce and Malcolm D. Lee will direct.
"This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before," Warner Bros. Pictures wrote about the film.
"It’s Tunes versus Goons in the high-est-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even 'King' James by playing the game their own way."
