A Florida principal is reportedly on leave following his arrest for "skip scanning" at Walmart's self-checkout.

According to News Channel 8, Gregory Lewis, the principal at Bok Academy North in Lake Wales, was caught by Walmart security personnel "skip scanning" items at a self-checkout register. The scheme involves customers ringing up less expensive items in their carts as they attempt to avoid paying for pricier items.

Lewis reportedly hid items, including lightbulbs, bacon, and frozen shrimp, under disposable plates. The middle school principal attempted to get out of paying $37.45.

According to reports, Lewis admitted to trying to leave the store without paying for the products. He reportedly told police that he got the idea from a friend who got away with it.

“We sit around talking, ‘Hey, I did this.’ Let me try and see what I can get away with,” Lewis told police. “I did something dumb today, and I understand it.”

Lewis was booked into Polk County Jail on a petit theft charge. In light of his arrest, Lewis was placed on administrative leave amid an internal investigation by Lake Wales Schools.
