Rep Glenn Ivey Talks Mobilizing Black Voters, Health equity & Public Safety

At ALC 54, Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD), who represents the nation’s largest Black-majority district, spotlighted health equity and public safety. Ivey also warned that GOP-driven Medicaid cuts and lapsing ACA tax credits could raise premiums and push people out of coverage, calling state and nonprofit stopgaps limited. He condemned the militarization of city policing and advocated reviving DOJ consent decrees and passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Politically, he said Democrats must invest in Black — and especially younger — voters, fight gerrymanders, and win upcoming races to protect services.
