Rep. Hank Johnson Warns Of Threats To Democracy

At the 54th Annual Legislative Conference, Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson warned that U.S. democracy faces a “six-alarm fire” under President Trump’s unchecked power. He additionally criticized the Supreme Court for enabling executive overreach and stressed the need for the judiciary to uphold checks and balances.

Johnson also highlighted his legislative priorities, including the FAIR Act, which would end forced arbitration in consumer disputes, and the RAP Act, which protects artists from having their lyrics used as criminal evidence. Looking ahead to Georgia’s elections, he emphasized the importance of voter registration and turnout, saying Democrats can flip statewide offices if mobilized, potentially electing Georgia’s first Black governor.
