Dave Chappelle said that today’s headlines get “more appalling” with each day during an episode of Michelle Obama’s podcast, IMO

Chappelle appeared in an episode posted on Wednesday (May 6) alongside Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson

While the conversation largely focused on Chappelle's life and fame as an actor and comedian, Obama asked him about “where we are now in society” and how he felt about the current political climate.

“It’s never really been quite like this before, where everyone feels like we’re on the precipice of some amazing change,” Chappelle said.

“Every day, the new cycle is more appalling than the last day, and this doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to end. And every week, I learn some new words, like ‘Strait of Hormuz.'”

Chappelle previously went on record saying that Americans should give Donald Trump a “chance” after his 2016 win, but he has since changed his outlook in light of the president’s recent actions.

During the podcast, they both decried the president’s recent actions and discussed how difficult it has become to raise their families.

“I was trying to explain to somebody, I’m like, ‘You know, my daughter is 16, so Donald Trump is the first white president she’s ever seen,’” Chappelle said. “And my baby’s like, ‘Oh no! They’re not good at it, Daddy.'”

Obama said that raising her and former President Barack Obama’s daughters—Sasha and Malia—has been “terrifying.”

“We have overcome worse. But we overcome it by pulling together and not feeding on each other,” she said. “We have to remind our young people because this internet kind of conversation, we’re playing in that space a little bit too much. And I don’t want young folks to get comfortable with that dissing mentality.”
