Obama knows ball!
Former President Barack Obama is keeping one of his favorite summer traditions alive.
On Thursday (July 30), Obama shared his annual summer playlist, giving followers a look at what's been in heavy rotation over the past few months. As expected, the list is packed with everything from hip-hop and R&B to gospel, jazz, rock and international music.
"Here are some of the songs I've been listening to this summer," Obama wrote alongside his three-page playlist on Instagram. "It starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard. Our hearts go out to his family."
This year's playlist features more than 40 songs. Among the standout selections are Doechii and SZA's "girl, get up.," Vince Staples' "White Flag," BossMan Dlow's "Motion Party," Fred Hammond's "I Feel Good," Ledisi's "You Go To My Head" featuring Paul Jackson Jr., Luther Vandross' "Anyone Who Had A Heart," Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody," Earth, Wind & Fire's "Can't Hide Love," A Tribe Called Quest's "Award Tour," Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" and Nina Simone's "In the Dark."
Obama also sprinkled in artists including Anderson .Paak, Raye, Drake, Kelela, Yebba, Noah Kahan, The Strokes, David Bowie, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Buena Vista Social Club, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons featuring Hozier, continuing a tradition of blending new releases with timeless classics across multiple genres.
The playlist arrived just one day after Obama shared his annual summer reading list, which includes 11 books. Among this year's selections are Tayari Jones' Kin, Colson Whitehead's Cool Machine and Roopika Risam's Data Empire: The Power of Information to Organize, Control, and Dominate, alongside books by Michael Pollan, Elizabeth Strout, Ann Patchett and George Saunders.
Obama has released annual summer playlists and reading lists for years, turning them into one of his signature traditions and introducing millions of people to a mix of emerging artists, legendary musicians and new books each summer.
