Remember all those dating rumors about Lupita Nyong'o and Jared Leto that swirled around in 2014? Despite never being romantically involved, the two had an undeniable chemistry and it showed as they navigated that year's awards season — Nyong'o being praised for her role in 12 Years a Slave and Leto for his character in Dallas Buyers Club. During a recent cover interview with Net-a-Porter, the 36-year-old actress opened up about her relationship with the actor/singer, admitting there was an "intimacy" between them that transcended all those pesky rumors.
“Jared Leto, he’s still on speed dial, because we were on that [Oscar campaign] journey together and he’s so embracing of me,” she explained. “There was an intimacy that grew from that, that goes beyond the dating rumors, beyond all that.”
Leto raised eyebrows when he gave Nyong'o a shout out during his Independent Spirit Awards acceptance speech in 2014. "[To] my future ex-wife, Lupita," he said, "I'm thinking about you." Both ended up winning that year's Supporting Actor and Actress Oscars for their respective films.
Nyong'o became part of the Marvel Universe last year, with her outstanding role in Black Panther. Leto recently divulged that he will also be joining that universe in 2020, when he stars as the titular character in Morbius.
