Jackson State Names Deion Sanders As Next Head Football Coach

Super Bowl Champion Deion Sanders has announced that he will be the next head football coach at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. Sanders made the news official during the latest episode of his new podcast, 21st and Prime.

"I am truly blessed to be the 21st Head football coach of Jackson State University," he said.

"It's my desire to continue this storied tradition and history of JSU and prayerfully bring more national recognition to the athletes, the university, the Sonic Boom of the South, and HBCUs in general."

Sanders currently serves as the offensive coordinator of the Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. Moving to Jackson State, he will step in to the first collegiate head coaching role of his career.

"It's very big for Jackson State University," Jackson State Athletic Director Ashley Robinson said.

"Not only for Jackson State University, this is very big for the country right now. Very big for the state of Mississippi. To Coach Prime, Jackson State University -- a blue blood program full of Hall of Famers -- it's just a great time."

Sanders will replace former head coach John Hendrick. Hendrick finished his time at Jackson State University with an overall record of 6-9 and 5-5 in the SWAC East. The school's most recent winning season came in 2013.
