Stacey Abrams To Release Novel 'While Justice Sleeps' Next Year

Voting rights activist Stacey Abrams will be dipping into the fictional side of the literary world. The former Georgia gubernatorial candidate will be releasing her next novel, While Justice Sleeps, on May 25, 2021 via Doubleday. The book is a thriller focused on the story of a young clerk working for a sickly Supreme Court justice. Trouble begins to brew when the justice discovers possible wrongdoing in Washington.

Abrams said she drew on her background in law and politics for inspiration. “A decade ago, I wrote the first draft of a novel that explored an intriguing aspect of American democracy — the lifetime appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Abrams said in a statement. “As an avid consumer of legal suspense novels and political thrillers, I am excited to add my voice into the mix." This will be Abrams' first fictional work. She wrote Our Time is Now and Lead From The Outside, both nonfiction novels. The activist also published several suspense novels under the name "Selena Montgomery."

Amazon Studios released a documentary on Abrams called All In: The Fight for Democracy on Amazon Prime Video last month. Abrams produced the film, which is about Americans' right to vote and have their voice heard.
