Colorado Landlord Threatens Tenants With Rent Increase If Joe Biden Wins

“Please understand IF Joe Biden is elected as our next President, everything you do and have to pay for will change completely.”

These are the words from a chilling notice tenants of the Pagel’s Trailer Park in Fort Morgan, Colorado received from their landlord, Bernie Pagel

The letter goes on to detail increases tenants can expect to see if Joe Biden wins the presidency, including taxes, utilities and grocery costs before threatening tenants more directly: “This also means YOUR RENT will be increased to cover these expenses. Most likely, rent would DOUBLE in price!”

Juana Hernandez, whose parents have lived at the trailer park for nearly a decade, told The New York Times that the notices were rolled up and placed in the fences of the lot. “It’s really infuriating,” Hernandez said, “I do think that it is intimidation.”

In response to the landlord’s threat, tenants reached out to state officials for help, asking “Can he do this? Will I get kicked out?” State Senator Julie Gonzales reported the incident to Philip J. Weiser, the state’s attorney general.

The landlord’s message concludes by telling tenants, “Voting is your choice and we are not telling you how to vote. We are just informing our tenants what WE will do according to the election results. If Trump wins, we all win. If Biden wins, we all lose.”

A spokesperson for Weiser stated the office could not confirm if an investigation is being conducted.
