Trump Reportedly Paid Capitol Rally Organizers $2.7M

The campaign of former president Donald Trump reportedly gave more than $2.7 million over two years to individuals and firms who assisted in the planning for the January 6 rally in Washington, D.C.

According to documents from the Federal Election Commission, the payments were made up until November 23, 2020, right before the announcement of the rally, per a report from Bloomberg.

Eight Trump campaign officials were named on permits issued by the National Park Service for the January 6 rally. Among those listed were Maggie Mulvaney, who is the niece of Mick Mulvaney. Maggie was paid $138,000 by Trump’s campaign until late November.

An adviser in Trump’s campaign denied allegations that the campaign was involved in bankrolling or planning the deadly rally.

Megan Powers, listed as one of the operations managers, received $290,000 in payment between February 2018 and November 2020. Republican fundraiser Caroline Wren and stage manager Ronald Holden were also listed as having received payments.

Wren, according to The Associated Press, was paid $20,000 a month from March to November of last year. Wren was listed on a permit as “VIP Advisor,” previously served as a financial consultant for Trump’s second campaign.

Event Strategies, Inc. received the biggest payout, according to the documents, taking in over $1.7 million.

These developments come after members of the House transmitted a single article of impeachment against Trump for his involvement with the January 6 attack.

Representatives, like many, believe Trump’s months-long baseless crusade to overturn the election, along with his fiery statements hours before the siege warranted the second impeachment.

Over 100 people have been arrested for their involvement in the attack.
